“Giorgi Aleksidze Tbilisi Contemporary Ballet has been cooperating with Tbilisi Baroque Festival for three years now. Since 2020 was the 80th anniversary of Giorgi Aleksidze, we decided to present at this year’s festival his neoclassical performances – compositions, miniatures, fragments from full-length ballets which Giorgi Aleksidze staged to the music by composers of the Baroque period, calling this style of dancing, this approach neo-baroque.
Together with our company’s manager and ballet master Marina Aleksidze and teacher-répétiteur Ketevan Mukhashavria, we restored these performances staged by Giorgi Aleksidze, worked with remarkable young dancers of our company, and decided to present to you this work in progress from our rehearsal hall and to talk a little about this approach used by Giorgi Aleksidze. I think that our idea of educational video-project is made more original by the perspective offered by our company director, David Maziashvili, who suggested that these performances presented in the rehearsal hall are alternated with the archival footage – on stage, wearing costumes, in its real time when the first performers danced these ballets.” – Mariam Aleksidze
